Bangarra Dance Theatre is one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies, dedicated to sharing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories through powerful works of theatre. Combining dance, music, poetry and design, Bangarra tells the stories of their Elders, creating works on Country and returning the works to the place they were made. Each dancer is a professionally trained artist with a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. 

Engaging with First Nations performing arts companies like Bangarra is a powerful way to deepen understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Through theatre, audiences are invited to develop a greater understanding of our shared history and reflect on their own reconciliation journey. 

In 2025, Bangarra presents Illume, a new theatrical experience that weaves music, visual arts and dance to explore the ways light has inspired and sustained Indigenous cultural existence for millennia. 

Bangarra is proud to offer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community members - and those working alongside First Nations peoples - access to Community Night performances of Illume throughout their national tour from May to September 2025.
